KDKA-AM, WPIAL Enter High School Sports Broadcasting Agreement

Expect a beefed-up WPIAL presence on the news-talk radio station.

PITTSBURGH, PA — KDKA-AM and the WPIAL have entered a multi-year partnership that makes the station the WPIAL's official broadcast partner.

KDKA will provide what it says will be a combination of "highly produced terrestrial radio and free audio streaming broadcasts" of all WPIAL football and boys and girls basketball championship games.

Continuing will be the station’s on-air and digital coverage of the KDKA Radio Game of the Week, which will includes additional programming to be announced at a later date.

The agreement also will provide increased branding and promotional consideration for the WPIAL that ensures diverse platforms for league partners, member schools and student athletes.

“The WPIAL is very excited about our partnership with the world’s first radio station, KDKA,” WPIAL Executive Director Scott Seltzer said in a post on the KDKA website. “They’ve made it clear to us they are committed to telling the stories of the great accomplishments of our student athletes. We look forward to having KDKA as our flagship station for a long time.”
