KDKA Fires Meteorologist Jeff Verszyla

The veteran forecaster had been with the station for 23 years.

PITTSBURGH, PA - After nearly a quarter of a century forecasting the weather on KDKA-TV, meteorologist Jeff Verszyla was let go by the station on Friday.

“I’m upset I was not given the opportunity to properly say goodbye on my broadcast,” Verszyla tweeted after announcing his dismissal on social media. “But please know I appreciate all of you.”

Verszyla’s page on KDKA’s website has been taken down.

Verszyla holds a degree in broadcast communications and English from Allegheny College and a meteorology degree from Mississippi State. Before joining KDKA, he worked for a TV station in Texas and was an on-air personality and morning show producer at WVTY-FM and WRRK-FM in Pittsburgh.

Verszyla is a member of the American Meteorological Society, the National Weather Association and the International Association of Broadcast Meteorologists. He also has been a trained weather spotter for the Pittsburgh office of the National Weather Service.
