PITTSBURGH, PA - KDKA-AM talk show host Marty Griffin, who is battling throat cancer, has been hospitalized in the Shadyside Hospital intensive care unit. Griffin revealed the setback Thursday morning in a Facebook live video recorded from his hospital bed.
Pictured in a hospital gown and receiving oxygen, a weak-sounding Griffin said he was hospitalized Wednesday after receiving a radiation treatment at the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center on the Shadyside Hospital campus.
“After receiving radiation, I was very wobbly on my feet,” he said. “I had a difficult time keeping my balance and I had a fever of 103.7.”

Griffin disclosed his cancer diagnosis last month, revealing he has squamous cell carcinoma of the throat triggered by the HPV virus. Griffin said he went public with his medical condition to promote the vaccine teens can get that can prevent the virus. The vaccine was unavailable when he was a youth.

Griffin, 59, a longtime KDKA-TV reporter, left the station at the end of July to join the start-up company Sparkt. He has been chronicling his cancer battle in videos posted to the Sparkt.com site.
Griffin said in the Thursday video that he expects to make a full recovery.
“I don’t know how long I’m going to be in here,” he said. “But I know I’m going to live.”
