Kennywood Eliminating Four Popular Rides
The West Mifflin amusement park is bidding farewell to four attractions that have been there for decades.
PITTSBURGH, PA — Kennywood is bidding farewell to four rides that have been at the West Mifflin amusement park for decades. The Kangaroo, Paratrooper, Bayern Kurve and Volcano will not return in 2021.
"Even in a National Historic Landmark, change is a constant at Kennywood," amusement park officials stated in a Facebook post.
"Part of the evolution is a continuous examination of the sustainability, capacity and popularity of our attraction lineup. As part of that process, the following rides are being retired: Kangaroo, Paratrooper, Bayern Kurve and Volcano.

"While these attractions have created countless special memories for our guests and team members over the years, we have determined the best path forward at this time is to say goodbye. We hope you will join us in cherishing the memories with these rides, and we look forward to adding new attractions that create new moments to treasure in future seasons."
Reaction to the moves was not kind to Kennywood.

"This is, quite frankly, unacceptable, and speaks volumes about what to expect from the newer management at the park, and not in a particularly good way," Bill Linkenhemer wrote on Facebook. "To suggest that the Bayern Kurve, Paratrooper and Kangaroo aren't popular or don't have acceptable capacity, is mind-numbing, to say the least."
"The Kangaroo was the last operating ride in the world of its kind," Jessyka Harper stated. "Why would you give that up? So gross, and definitely disappointing."
Kennywood did not announce any new rides on Tuesday.
