Kennywood Putting Final Touches On 2023 Season Preparation

WEST MIFFLIN, PA — Kennywood is putting the final touches on its preparation for the 2023 season, which begins April 22 and will start a celebration of the amusement park's 125th anniversary. The festivities kick off on opening day with a five-weekend-long event honoring decades of the park's past.

The 125th Celebration Weekends will include entertainment, nostalgic photo opportunities, merchandise, and giveaways representing elements that defined each era. April 22 and 23 celebrates 1898 through the 1960s with live performances from the Boilermaker Jazz Band and The Brass Staff. The following four weekends will celebrate the '70s, '80s,'90s and 2000s, respectively, April 29 through May 21.

125th Celebration Weekends will lead up to the launch of Spinvasion, set for Memorial Day weekend. The thrill ride, the first of its kind in the country, takes center stage in Area 412 alongside a refreshed Cosmic Chaos and the renovated gift shop.

This season will feature new additions to the park’s food and beverage lineup. Pizza Warehouse now has a flashy brick facade, a mural for photo opportunities and an all-new menu. The Golden Nugget located next door to the pizzeria has gotten a facelift as well. A new coffee shop, 1898 Coffee Co., will open later this season and feature an array of coffee flavors and specialty drinks.

Later this spring, Primanti Bros. opens in Lost Kennywood. It's the Pittsburgh-based restaurant chain's first theme park location. Of course, the eatery will feature the almost-famous Primanti Bros. sandwiches featuring house-made coleslaw, fresh-cut fries, Italian bread and the patron's meat of choice.
