Kennywood Readies For 8th Annual Holiday Lights Festivities
The West Mifflin amusement park will be accepting donations for the Tree of Life synagogue shooting victims.

PITTSBURGH, PA - When Santa’s sleigh is climbing the tracks of the Thunderbolt, that can only mean one thing: It’s time for the return on Kennywood’s Holiday Lights. Nearly two million bulbs will illuminate the West Mifflin amusement park and the tallest Christmas tree to be found in Pennsylvania - 90 feet plus a 10-foot tree-topping ornament.
What’s different this year about the display? Thomas Town will be part of the fun for the first time, with the tank engine that everyone lovers escorting riders through the park’s winter wonderland. Also, the fences around the area where Kennywood’s Steel Curtain is rising for its 2019 debut will be adorned with construction-themed light displays.
Kennywood also is continuing to extend the tradition of asking people to bring a toy to donate to Toys for Tots. The park also will be provide the chance for patrons to donate to the Jewish Federation of Greater Pittsburgh’s Our Victims of Terror Fund for the victims of the Tree of Life synagogue attack.
“Our hearts are with the victims and loved ones impacted by last month’s awful tragedy,” Kennywood general manager Jerome Gibas said. “Kennywood has been a gathering place for people of all faiths, communities and backgrounds for 120 years. The holidays are a special time to bring our community together to celebrate our traditions and to give back to as many as we can.”
