Kennywood, Sandcastle Prepare To Go Full Force Into Summer

PITTSBURGH, PA — Kennywood is preparing for an active Memorial Day weekend, with an extended operating schedule, the debut of a sort-of new ride and select free admissions. Sandcastle water park also will be offering some free admissions.

The West Mifflin amusement park begins daily operations for the summer beginning May 23. That date will bring the unveiling of the Potato Smash, the mash-up of Kennywood's classic bumper car ride made over to pay homage to the park's delectable Potato Patch fries.

The park's annual Bites and Pints festivities begin May 24 and feature eight different international cuisines, plus brand-new entertainment. The chef-inspired tasting event features unique menu items with dishes inspired by Brazilian, German, Greek, Irish, Italian, Jamaican, South Korean, Mexican and Polish cuisines.

To commemorate Memorial Day, veterans will be provided free admission and discounted admission for up to four guests from May 23-27.

Kennwood's sister water park, Sandcastle in West Homestead, is offering free admission to all educators plus discounted admission for up to four guests. The special will run from Opening Day on May 25 through June 30.
