Kennywood Shooting: Authorities To Announce Suspect's Arrest

Three people were shot last month during an altercation at the popular family amusement park.

WEST MIFFLIN, PA — Law enforcement officials this morning will provide details on the arrest of a suspect in last month's Kennywood shooting that wounded three people.

Allegheny County and West Mifflin police have scheduled a news conference for 11 a.m.

The shooting occurred at around 10:50 p..m near the Musik Express ride.

Witnesses reported two groups of juveniles were involved in an altercation , and then during the confrontation shots were fired. The shooter was described as a Black male wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and a dark colored COVID-19 mask.

Those wounded included one 39-year-old adult male with a gunshot wound to the leg, one 15-year-old male with a gunshot wound to the leg and a second 15-year-old male with a grazing wound to the leg.

A handgun was discovered near the shooting scene by responding officers.

Kennywood since has doubled the number of police officers contracted through local law enforcement agencies for each night of its Phantom Fall Fest. Kennywod leadership now wears uniform red jackets to be more clearly visible.

Trees have been cut down along the park fence line bordering Route 837 to improve sight lines. New flood lights and security cameras are being installed for better monitoring, and ongoing security patrols in that area will increase significantly.
