Kennywood Wins International Honors

Its sister park Idlewild also was internationally recognized over the weekend.

PITTSBURGH, PA - The Golden Ticket Awards are considered the Academy Awards of the amusement industry, and it should come as no surprise that Kennywood and its sister park Idlewild fared well in the awards ceremony held over the weekend in Branson, MO.

Kennywood’s Noah’s Ark was recognized for the ninth straight year as the world’s best funhouse-walk-through attraction, while the West Mifflin amusement park’s Phantom Fright Nights was ranked among the top 5 best Halloween events in the amusement and theme park world.

Idlewild, located near Ligonier in Westmoreland County , was named best children’s park.

“Even with big changes happening at Kennywood in 2018, rare and historic rides like Noah’s Ark are critical to our identity,” Kennywood general manager Jerome Gibas said in a statement. “It’s rewarding to see the hard work of our team pay off with recognition from Golden Ticket Awards voters.”

The international awards are voted on by theme park aficionados and compiled by industry publication Amusement Today.
