Kennywood's Steel Curtain Named 2019's Best New Coaster
The Steelers-themed coaster won the award over the weekend.

PITTSBURGH, PA - The Steelers may have stunk in New England on Sunday night, but there is some good news for the team: Kennywood's Steel Curtain, which anchors the West Mifflin amusement park's new Steelers County area, has received another major accolade.
The Steel Curtain has won the Golden Ticket Award for Best New Roller Coaster of 2019. Organized by industry publication AThe Golden Ticket Awards were held over the weekend at the Silverwood Theme Park in Idaho.
“It’s hard to put into words what a thrill it is to see Steel Curtain be voted Best New Coaster,” Kennywood General Manager Jerome Gibas said in a statement. “Every year, the biggest and best parks in the world compete to deliver the best new coaster, so to be able to say we’re bringing that title home to Southwestern Pennsylvania is incredibly rewarding.”

The Steel Curtain is Pennsylvania's tallest coaster at 220 feet. It has the world's tallest inversion, 197 feet; and its nine inversions total are the most of any coaster in North America. With a top speed of 75 mph, the 24-passenger cars complete the 4,000-foot ride in just two minutes.
“The Steel Curtain is praised for its wildness, but also its fluidity and comfort,” said Tim Baldwin, Golden Ticket Awards Communication Coordinator. “It’s really a one-of-a-kind masterpiece.”
