Kidnapping, Related Shooting Occur In Pittsburgh Area

PITTS BURGH, PA — A kidnapping in a Pittsburgh suburb and a subsequent shooting in a city neighborhood Wednesday are believed to be related.

City police were notified of an armed kidnapping that was reported to the Plum Police Department at around 6:15 p.m. Officers later located a man suffering from a gunshot wound in Greenfield.

A family member told Plum Police that his brother had been kidnapped by two armed suspects who were demanding ransom money. City police began tracking the victim's cellphone, which was last
identified as being in the Hazelwood area.

At approximately 7:10 p.m., a witness called 911 to report observing several males involved in an altercation, followed by the sound of gunshots. Responding officers located the victim in the 900 block of Deely Street with a single gunshot wound to the chest. The victim informed officers
that the suspects fled the scene in a vehicle following the shooting.

Pittsburgh EMS transported the victim to the hospital in stable condition.
