Labor Day In Pittsburgh 2017: What's Open And Closed

Kennywood is among the places that will be open, but you'll have difficulty buying a bottle of booze.

PITTSBURGH, PA - Labor Day is a federal holiday, so don’t expect many places to be open for business on Monday. Here’s a rundown of what’s open and closed:

Closed

  • All Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania and federal offices and courts.
  • Post offices. Regular mail won’t be picked up or delivered.
  • Banks.
  • All state liquor stores.
  • PennDOT driver’s license and photo ID centers.
  • The Port Authority of Allegheny County’s Downtown service center. The authority’s bus, T and inclines will run on holiday schedules.
  • The city of Pittsburgh’s 14 senior center and 10 recreation centers.

Additionally, garbage pickup in the city of Pittsburgh and most suburbs will be delayed one day this week.

Open

  • Allegheny County swimming pools at North Park, South Park, Boyce Park and Settlers Cabin Park will be open from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The season-concluding Pooches in the Pool event will run from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
  • City of Pittsburgh swimming pools in Highland Park, Brighton Heights, Brookline, Mt. Washington, Schenley Park and the North Side will be open from 1 to 5:45 p.m.
  • Kennywood: Opens at 10:30 a.m. with a crowd-dependent closing time that could be as early as 9 a.m. Several attractions, such as the Raging Rapids and Penny Arcade, have closed for the season in preparation for Phantom Fright Nights.
  • Sandcastle: The water park will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the last day of the season.
