Summer Lee: First PA Black Woman To Be Elected To U.S. House
State Rep. Summer Lee and Plum Borough council president Mike Doyle squared off Tuesday on who represents Pittsburgh in the U.S. House.

PITTSBURGH, PA — Democratic State Rep. Summer Lee defeated Plum Borough council President Mike Doyle for the 12th Congressional District seat on Tuesday. Lee becomes the first Black woman from Pennsylvania to be elected to the U.S. House.“
Doyle conceded to Lee late Tuesday night.
"Tonight the voters of the 12th Congressional District came to the polls and made their voice heard," he said in a statement. "It appears that they have elected Summer Lee to be our next representative in Congress. I have reached out to Congresswoman-elect Lee to congratulate her and wish her well in Congress."

Lee, 34, currently represents the 34th Legislative District in the house, which includes portions of Pittsburgh, Braddock, Braddock Hills, Chalfant, Churchill, East Pittsburgh, Edgewood, Forest Hills, North Braddock, Rankin, Swissvale, Wilkins and Wilkinsburg.
A progressive Democrat who was endorsed by U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont and Pittsburgh Mayor Ed Gainey, Lee recently told the League of Women Voters of Greater Pittsburgh: "In Congress, I’ll bring upon the same values and track record I’ve been dedicated to as an organizer, advocate, and state legislator—bringing broad coalitions of folks together for environmental, racial, and economic justice, so we can win real victories for all working people."

Doyle's campaign website stated that he made his congressional bid to disrupt the political class in Washington.
"Mike will fight to stop the out-of-control spending that is driving up prices. Mike believes that Energy Independence is National Security and the Green New Deal will destroy our region. Mike knows we need to secure our border to stop the flow of fentanyl into our communities. He will fight efforts to federalize our elections and support measures to increase election integrity. Finally, Mike will support our police and first responders protecting our communities."
The 12th Congressional District is composed of Pittsburgh, many of its outlying suburbs, and a portion of Westmoreland County.
