Mac Miller, PSO, Dan + Shay Nominated For Grammys

Nominations for the 61st annual Grammy Awards were announced Friday.

PITTSBURGH, PA - Pittsburgh will be well represented at the 61st annual Grammy Awards ceremony in February. Receiving Grammy nominations FRiday were three artists with connections to the city: the late rap star Mac Miller, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and country artists Dan + Shay

Miller, a Point Breeze native and Taylor Allderdice High School graduate, was nominated for Best Rap Album. Titled “Swimming,” the album was released in August, little more than a month before Miller died Sept. 7 of a drug overdose at 26.

The Pittsburgh Symphony, led by musical director Manfred Honeck, received a best orchestral nomination for “Beethoven: Symphony No. 3; Strauss: Horn Concerto No. 1.” The CD also was nominated for Best Engineered Classical Album.

The symphony won the most recent Best Orchestral Performance Grammy for the “Shostakovich 5-Barber Adagio” CD, which also won an award for Best Engineered Classical Album.

Dan + Shay, the country duo featuring Wexford native and North Allegheny High School graduate Dan Smyers, were nominated for Best Country Duo/Group performance for “Tequila.”

The Grammy Awards ceremony will be held Feb. 10 and broadcast on CBS. For a full list of nominees, click here.
