Major Parkway East Closure Looming

A heavily traveled portion of I-376 will be closed for several days.

PITTSBURGH, PA - The inbound Parkway East will be closed next weekend, PennDOT officials confirmed Tuesday. The road will close Friday, June 14 and won't reopen until the morning of Monday, June 17.

The westbound - or inbound - lanes will be affected. Trucks will have to exit the parkway at Wilkinsburg, while other vehicles will have to get off at Edgewood-Swissvale.

The detour takes motorists to Penn Avenue, to Fifth Avenue, to the Boulevard of the Allies, back on to the Parkway East.

  • June 14, 7 p.m.: The ramps from Forward Avenue and Beechwood Boulevard to the inbound Parkway East will close to traffic for the weekend.
  • June 14, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. : The inbound Parkway East will be reduced to a single-lane from the Squirrel Hill Tunnel to the Frazier Street Bridge.
  • June 14,9 p.m. to June 17, 5 a.m.: Full closure of the inbound Parkway East at the Edgewood/Swissvale interchange.

PennDOT has not detailed the work requiring the closure, which will occur during the final weekend of the Three Rives Arts Festival.
