Man Behind Bringing Sandcastle, Beloved Kennywood Ride To Pittsburgh Dies

PITTSBURGH, PA — He brought Kennywood's beloved and since retired Log Jammer as the West Mifflin amusement park's first million-dollar ride.
He generated the idea of turning an old steel mill site into Sandcastle, a 50-acre West Homestead water park that debuted in 1989.
To call Harry Henninger Jr. a Pittsburgh entertainment innovator would be an understatement.

Henninger, known by many as Henny, died on June 2. He was 80.
According to his obituary, Henninger began working in his teens in the men's locker room and worked his way up to Kennywood CEO

He retired in 2007.
Henninger served on various non-profit boards including the Fred Rogers Company, Frick Museum, Pittsburgh Park’s Conservancy, The Children’s Home, St. Edmund’s Academy, PA Partnerships for Children, and the International Association of Amusement Parks & Attractions.
