Man Shot Dead By Pittsburgh Police, Missing Woman Found: Authorities

PITTSBURGH, PA — A man was shot dead by Pittsburgh police Thursday amid a confrontation following an investigation into a missing woman, authorities said.

The incident occurred at around 8:58 p.m. on the 1400 block of Rydal Street, in the city's Westwood neighborhood.

Family members had told police that a woman was missing and believed to be in danger earlier that evening, authorities said.

Investigators tracked the woman's vehicle to Rydal Street and knocked on the door of the home where it was parked. They said they were met there by a 43-year-old man, who has not been publicly identified by police, holding a revolver.

Authorities said a police officer fired a shot and hit the man. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

The missing woman was found safe inside the home.

The District Attorney's Office will review the case, as they do after all officer-involved shootings.

Police said that public identification of the officers involved will be done "at the discretion" of Pittsburgh police.
