PITTSBURGH, PA — Police are investigating an altercation in the city's Perry South section Thursday night that led to a man being stabbed in the head.

Police were dispatched to the 2100 block of Federal Street at approximately 9:30 p.m.

Preliminary information indicates two men not only stabbed the man in the head but also assaulted him with a baseball bat.

The victim self-transported to the nearby Pittsburgh Bureau of EMS station, where he was evaluated by paramedics and transported to the hospital in critical condition.

He was later upgraded to stable condition.

The SWAT team was requested to respond to a residence on the 2100 block of Koerner Avenue, where the two suspects were believed to be located. The drone and K9 unit also assisted with the search. No suspects were located inside.

The investigation is active and ongoing.
