Man Tried To Kill PPG Paints Arena Usher At Concert: Police

A man was arrested Thursday and charged in the brutal assault of the usher.

PITTSBURGH, PA — A man was arrested Thursday for attempting to kill a PPG Paints Arena usher during an Aerosmith concert earlier this month.

Dereck Daniel Pritchard, 24, of Bethel Park, is charged with aggravated assault, criminal attempt-criminal homicide, possession of an instrument of crime and recklessly endangering another person.

According to the Allegheny County Sheriff's Office, the victim was working in the arena's Captain Morgan Club on Sept. 6 when he was attacked. Surveillance video from the night of the concert shows him being struck multiple times in the head and face with the bottom end of an empty liquor bottle and then being stomped on in the head and neck area while on the ground.

The victim was taken to the hospital suffering from a concussion and injuries to his head and face.

Pittsburgh police were able to identify Pritchard as the assailant via the video and witness interviews, according to the sheriff's off.

Pritchard was arraigned in the county jail. A preliminary hearing date was not immediately available Friday.
