Mark Cuban Still In Talks To Buy Original Hot Dog Shop

The Dallas Mavericks owner updated how the attempt is going on a radio talk show.

PITTSBURGH, PA — Dallas Mavericks owner and Mt. Lebanon native Mark Cuban remains in negotiations to buy the legendary Original Hot Dog Shop, an Oakland staple for decades before its unexpected closure in April.

Cuban appeared on a talk show hosted by Pat McAfee, the former standout NFL punter and Plum native, and the interview included an update on his talks to purchase the shuttered hot dog shop.

"We're not done trying to buy the Dirty O, man," said Cuban, who frequented the shop as a University of Pittsburgh student. "I’m still trying to figure out a way to buy it. It’s not over for all those Pittsburghers out there."

However, he contended that the shop's owners were "over-negotiating."

Founded by Syd and Moe Simon, the restaurant opened across the street from Forbes Field during the Pittsburgh Pirates 1960 World Series Championship season. Over the years, the two-story eatery was featured on various TV programs such as The Food Network's "Unwrapped," the PBS
special "A Hot Dog Program" and others.

Moe Simon died April 9. It's unclear if his death had anything to do with the closure.
