Mass Shooting Threat Closes Pittsburgh-Area High School

Students already en route to school were sent home this morning.

PITTSBURGH, PA - Students at Hempfield Area High School in Westmoreland County were sent home this morning after district officials became aware of a mass shooting threat.

“The reported threat included a potential hit list and mass shooting during a school assembly scheduled for the morning,” superintendent Tammy Wolicki said in a message posted on the Hempfield School District website.

Buses and student drivers were already in route and were directed to return students home. To provide time for the buses to return high school students home, middle and elementary students were delayed for two hours.

The Pennsylvania State Police are investigating. Any high school student with information related to this threat is asked to contact the high school administration.
