Oakland Getting Massive New $252 Million Building
Carnegie Mellon University released design plans for the project on Monday.

PITTSBURGH, PA — Carnegie Mellon University has unveiled the design for its new $252 million Richard King Mellon Hall of Sciences in Oakland. The seven-story, 338,900-square-foot building will be built at the intersection of Forbes Avenue and South Craig Street.
The building, which should be completed by 2027, will host researchers and students from the Mellon College of Science, the School of Computer Science and the new Institute for Contemporary Arts Pittsburgh. The institute will serve as a hub for art and culture.
The new building "will bring together some of the best Carnegie Mellon has to offer: the foundational sciences, computer science and the arts,” said Curtis Meyer, Mellon College of Science interim dean, said in a statement. “This building will be the interface where these disciplines and the community can come together to learn and collaborate.”

The building will be adjacent to the South Craig Street business district and the and the Carnegie Museums of Art and Natural History. It will feature a plaza along Forbes Avenue and will have a 130-space underground parking garage.
