Mastriano Has Large Lead In GOP Gubernatorial Nomination Race: Poll

State Sen. Doug Mastriano appears to be the odds-on favorite to capture the Republican nomination for governor in next week's primary.

PENNSYLVANIA — State Senator Doug Mastriano of Franklin County has a significant lead in the race for the state's Republican gubernatorial nomination, according to a new poll.

In the newly released Trafalgar Poll, Mastriano - a staunch supporter of former President Donald Trump - received support from 26. 7 percent of respondents. Former U.S. Rep. Lou Barletta was second at 17.6 percent.

Dave White finished third with 15.1 percent and William McSwain came in fourth at 14.4 percent. Jake Corman received 5.3 percent, Melissa Hart, 3.7 percent, Joe Gale 3 percent and Charlie Gerow 2.1 percent.

The poll was conducted on May 6-8 and has a margin of error of 2.99 percent.

If Mastriano wins, he will face state Attorney General Josh Shapiro in the general election in November. Shapiro is the only Democrat running for governor.

According to CNN, Mastriano barred the media from covering a recent rally, forcing correspondent Kyung Lah and photojournalist Ronnie McCray to cover it from a hotel balcony across an indoor pool from the event.
