The restaurant chain is marking the 50th anniversary of the iconic burger, which was created in a Ross McDonald's.

ROSS TOWNSHIP, PA - McDonald’s plans to do something special to mark the 50th anniversary of the national rollout of the Big Mac, the iconic burger that was created in southwestern Pennsylvania.

The restaurant chain has partnered with Casio G-Shock watches and New Era apparel on limited edition Big Mac watches and caps. The collector’s items will be available through a Japanese website Rakuten beginning April 14, according to Buffalo Rising.

The watch, packaged in a Big Mac-shaped tin, will feature a Big Mac pattern along the strap. The New Era cap will feature the McDonald’s logo on the front and a Big Mac motif on the right.

As most everyone from Pittsburgh knows, the Big Mac was the creation of Jim Delligatti, in the kitchen of his first McDonald’s franchise on McKnight Road in Ross in 1967. It debuted at his Uniontown restaurant in 1967 and was put on McDonald’s menu nationwide in 1968.

Delligatti died in 2016. But his legacy lives on at every McDonald’s and at the Big Mac Museum in North Huntingdon. Highlights of the museum’s exhibits include the world’s tallest Big Mac statue; an 18-foot electronic world map; seven flat panel LCD display screens with vignettes about McDonald’s and tabletops laminated with images and trivia about the triple-decker sandwich.
