Before you head out on Memorial Day, check the Patch list of what's open and closed.

PITTSBURGH, PA -The three-day Memorial Day weekend is a time to honor the veterans who had the ultimate sacrifice serving their country. It also serves as an unofficial kickoff to summer, a time to get away for the weekend or fire up the grill.

Here’s what you’ll find open and closed on the holiday:

  • City, county, state and federal offices: Closed.
  • Port Authority of Allegheny County: Buses and the T will operate on holiday schedules. The Mon Incline runs from 8:45 a.m. to midnight; the Duquesne Incline will operate from 7 a.m. to 12:45 a.m. Local parades will cause detours on some bus routes. Check the Port Authority website for specific schedules and detours.
  • Banks: Most are closed, but some supermarket branches will have limited hours.
  • Post offices: Closed. There will be no regular mail delivery.
  • Liquor stores: Stores normally open on Mondays will open at their scheduled time. All stores will close at 5 p.m.
  • Refuse collection: In Pittsburgh communities, there will be no Monday pickup and trash collection will be a day later than usual for the week. In suburban communities, check with your individual municipality.
  • Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh: All branches closed.
  • Pittsburgh senior centers: Closed.
  • Pittsburgh recreation centers: Closed.
  • Restaurants: Most national chain restaurants are open and many will offer free or discounted menu items to active, reserve or retired military personnel.
