MLK Day 2018: What's Open, Closed In Pittsburgh

Not everything is closed for the 32nd observance of this federal holiday.

PITTSBURGH, PA - Martin Luther King, Jr. Day will be celebrated Monday marking the 32nd year of observance of the federal holiday honoring the slain civil rights leader. While some in the region might have to work, most schools and government offices will take a break .

Here’s what you can expect to find open and closed in southwestern Pennsylvania on Martin Luther King Jr. Day:

  • Schools: Varies by district.
  • Government: All city of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, state and federal offices and state and federal courts are closed..
  • Banks: Most are closed
  • State liquor stores: Open .
  • U.S. Postal Service: Post offices will be closed and there will be no mail delivery.
  • Port Authority of Allegheny County: Bus, light-rail and incline service will operate on their respective regular weekday schedules.
  • Pittsburgh senior centers: Closed.
  • Pittsburgh recreation centers: Closed.
  • Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh: All branches closed.
