Money Pours In To Pay For Slain 4-Year-Old Pittsburgh Girl's Funeral

Kaari Thompson, 4, and her mother were shot Thursday outside of a Lincoln-Lemington grocery.

PITTSBURGH, PA — The senseless killing of a 4-year-old girl outside of a Lincoln-Lemington grocery store last week has prompted more than $14,000 in donations to cover her funeral.

Kaari Thompson and her mother were shot at approximately 6:40 p.m. Thursday outside of the Brooklyn Food Market on Lincoln Avenue. Kaari was taken to Children's Hospital where she died. Her mother was critically wounded in the shooting and remains hospitalized.

"Our whole family is devastated," Heather Thompson told WTAE-TV Sunday at a vigil for Kaari outside of the market. "This was senseless. Why would you gun down a four-year-old?"
