Nancy B's Cookies Co-Owner Nancy Bertram Runco Dies

Nancy Bertram Runco, who has baked the Pittsburgh area's most famous chocolate chip cookies, died Monday.

WEST HOMESTEAD, PA — Nancy Bertram Runco, co-owner of the beloved Nancy B's Bakery that makes what arguably is western Pennsylvania's most famous chocolate chip cookie, died Monday.

Her son and bakery co-owner Michael Runco made the announcement via a Facebook post.

"With great sadness in my heart, my mom Nancy passed away tonight," he wrote. "Please know we will be closed temporarily, please pray for her even though she already had her wings."

Located in a nondescript and easy-to-overlook building, the bakery makes cookies that are internationally renowned, as the Runcos have has been shipping them to troops overseas for 30 years. A 2018 Fox News profile noted that Nancy B’s Bakery cookies have reached Afghanistan, Kuwait, Iraq and the United Arab Emirates, among other locales.

Nancy B's also has won several awards for having the best chocolate chip cookies in Pittsburgh.
