National Ice Cream Day 2019: Where To Find Sweet Deals, Freebies

In one of the most important acts of his presidency, Ronald Regan in 1984 proclaimed July as National Ice Cream Month and established National Ice Cream Day as the third Sunday in July. The third Sunday in July is this Sunday, and many places are offering ice cream treats for free or at reduced prices.

But before we get to the freebies and deals that are available on July 21, here's some ice cream trivia, courtesy of the National Day Calendar:

• Ben Franklin, George Washington and Thomas Jefferson enjoyed ice cream.
• In 1813, First Lady Dolley Madison served ice cream at the Inaugural Ball.
• In 1832, confectioner, Augustus Jackson, created multiple ice cream recipes as well as a superior technique to manufacture ice cream.
• In 1843, Philadelphian Nancy Johnson, received the first U.S. patent for a small-scale hand-cranked ice cream freezer.
• In 1920, Harry Burt puts the first ice cream trucks on the streets.

• PetSmart: Stop into a PetSmart on July 20 or 21 to get free ice cream for your pooch. You’ll get free, dog-friendly ice cream along with a dog biscuit.
