FRAZER TOWNSHIP, PA — The boos involving Pittsburgh Halloween landmark ScareHouse this year won't be coming from ghosts and ghouls. Instead, they will come from the attraction's loyal patrons voicing their disapproval over not being able to get their fright fix there this year.

ScareHouse will not open in 2024 year and its long-term future is uncertain.

The closure has yet to be mentioned on the attraction's website or social media pages. But ScareHouse co-owner Scott Simmons confirmed the news to Pittsburgh Magazine.

ScareHouse has been ranked as one of “America’s Scariest Halloween Attractions” by the Travel Channel and has been featured on Good Morning America, The Daily Show, Travel Channel, CBS and ABC News, Buzzfeed, Forbes, Mental Floss and many other national media outlets.

For years, ScareHouse operated out of an Etna location before taking a year off in 2019 to search for new accommodations. Simmons and company found what looked to be an ideal permanent location in the Galleria at Pittsburgh Mills mall in 2020, but ScareHouse attendance likely was negatively impacted by the mall's dwindling number of retail tenants over the past several years.
