Need A Prom Dress? Allegheny County Has A Free One For You
Allegheny County's Department of Human Services is giving away new and gently used prom dresses to eligible high school students.
PITTSBURGH, PA — Prom dresses can be an expensive venture. A quick search on Promgirl.com, which bills itself as an "online prom superstore" found no dresses under $100 and one that sells for $680.
Some girls can't afford the cost of a dress.
With that in mind, Allegheny County's Department of Human Services is preparing to give away new and gently used prom attire for eligible students.

The dresses were donated by residents, local dress shops One Enchanted Evening in Zelienople and DressHaute at South Hills Village, and online store Sydney’s Closet. A selection of shoes and accessories also will be available.
Prom gowns will be available at the Project Prom Shop at 10 Duff Road in Penn Hills at the following dates and times:

- March 25 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
- March 27 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
- March 30, 3 p.m. -7 p.m.
- April 1 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
To be eligible, high school students must live in Allegheny County and qualify for a free or reduced school lunch. A student is also eligible if a household member is on active military duty or a veteran.
Guests must register in advance for an available time slot and are asked to bring only one person to accompany them.
