New Greenfield Bridge To Debut With Big Bash

A daylong event will occur on the new span Saturday to celebrate the end of two years of detours.

PITTSBURGH, PA - After two years of detours and the dramatic implosion of the old span, the new Greenfield Bridge is slated to open this weekend. But before vehicular traffic is allowed on Sunday, Greenfeld will hold a daylong “The Bridge is Back” event Saturday.

Here’s the schedule of activities from the Greenfield Community Association:

  • 11 a.m. Beat the Bridge Fun Run

Be one of the first to run from Greenfield to Schenley as the Bridge opens to pedestrians. Two timed courses include a one-miler and a 5K.

  • Noon: Zumba on the Bridge

Ever Zumba on a bridge? Participants in this free dance/aerobic class must be 16 or older and are strongly encouraged to bring their own water.

  • Noon- 7 p.m. Kids Plus Children’s Festival

Kids Plus will host a child-focused festival full of children’s activities and live music.

  • 2-7 p.m. The Bridge is Back!

The event will feature food trucks from around the area, free games such as miniature golf and giant block-stacking, an even larger ring toss, a rock climbing wall, and adult-sized big wheels.

  • 3-6:30 p.m. The Fantastic Adventure: Greenfield Bridge

Join City of Play as they premiere a neighborhood-wide, immersive adventure to welcome the Greenfield Bridge. Part storytelling, part scavenger hunt, and part festival, the Fantastic Adventure is a new type of theatrical event that puts the audience in the center of the action.

  • 7 p.m. Ribbon Cutting

The Mayor’s office and distinguished guests will officially ring-in the new bridge with a ribbon cutting followed by a small parade and the uplighting of the bridge, provided by Luxe Creative.

  • 8 p.m.-midnight The Greenfield Glug

The day will be capped by the first-ever Greenfield Glug. A free circulating shuttle will be running between J Goughs, Hough’s, Yesterdays, Zano’s and Big Jim's. Participants wearing a Bridge is Back T-shirt will receive special drink and food specials.
