PITTSBURGH, PA — Plans for a $110 million music venue and parking garage on the site of the former Civic Arena advanced Thursday when two government agencies signed off on the project.

Approvals by the Sports & Exhibition Authority and the Urban Redevelopment Authority of Pittsburgh mean construction of the complex can begin this summer. The project is a joint venture of the Buccini Pollin Group and the Pittsburgh Penguins, who own the development rights to the 28-acre arena site.

The complex will include an 80,000-square-foot entertainment venue, a 910-space garage, about 10,000 square feet of retail or commercial space and a public safety facility. The garage is expected to be completed in October 2024, while the entertainment component is slated to be finished by November 2025.

The concert venue, which will seat 4,500, will be operated by the entertainment company Live Nation. It will have its primary entrances at the corner of Logan Street and Wylie Avenue on the former site of arena Lot E.

The concert hall will be in direct competition for acts with Stage AE, the 13-year-old concert venue located on the North Shore. The venue, located across the street from Acrisure Stadium, has 22,000 square feet of indoor capacity and 30,000 square feet on the outdoor lawn.
