MOON TOWNSHIP, PA — As construction of Pittsburgh International Airport's new Landside Terminal has passed the halfway mark, airport officials said this week that the project's cost has risen.

What recently was pegged as a $1.4 billion cost has jumped to $1.57 billion. Blue Sky, the airport's online news site, blamed the hike on pandemic-related inflation and supply-chain shortages. But no local or state tax dollars are being used to pay for the project; the Allegheny County Airport Authority will back construction bonds from operating revenues, most of which are paid by the airlines.

According to Blue Sky, workers recently poured concrete for the roadway bridge that will carry traffic to and from the new terminal. The high roof steel has been completed and construction has begun on the bridge connecting the new terminal to the existing Airside Terminal.
