New Pittsburgh Weather Advisory Issued

Find out here what the National Weather Service believes is in store for the Pittsburgh area in the immediate future.

PITTSBURGH, PA — Winter's relentless grip on Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania will not relax any time in the near future.

As people continue to dig out from the worst winter snowfall in nearly 16 years, they are doing so in frigid temperatures. The National Weather Service has issued a Cold Weather Advisory in effect from 7 p.m. on Wednesday until 11 a.m. on Thursday.

Wind chills as low as 15 degrees below zero. For those venturing outdoors, hypothermia or frostbite is possible if precautions are not taken. This extended period of freezing temperatures could cause ruptured water pipes as well.

Then it gets really cold.

After a high near 15 on Friday, the overnight low will be around seven below zero.

On Saturday, the high again will be near 15 but the overnight low will be a balmy three degrees. On Sunday, temperatures will rise to 19.

So when will it get above freezing? The forecasts on that are mixed.

State College-based AccuWeather says the temperature could climb as high as 36 on Feb. 5 before highs once again fall below freezing. The long-range forecast from The Weather Channel does not predict the Pittsburgh area to get above freezing at least through Feb. 11.
