PITTSBURGH, PA - The wait is over. After Peter's Pub closed its doors last May after more than four decades on the University of Pittsburgh campus, the university and nearby hospital community waited for its successor establishment to debut.

Following a year of renovations and remodeling, the new Mario's has opened on the Oakland Avenue site. The place is so new that Mario's still has lists the tavern as "coming soon" on its website.

Mario's has been a South Side institution since the early 1980s and expanded with a Shadyside location in 2011. The Oakland location is the third in the slowly expanding chain.
