Oppressive Heat To Again Trigger Early School Dismissals

Find out here if your child will be let out of classes early on Wednesday.

PITTSBURGH, PA - With the summer heat wave continuing on Wednesday, schools in many southwestern Pennsylvania districts will dismiss students early again. That includes the region’s largest district, the Pittsburgh Public Schools, which will have a two-hour early release for all schools and early childhood centers.

Students will be dismissed as follows:

Normal dismissal time, Tuesday release time
2:10 p.m., 12:10 p.m.
2:45 p.m.; 12:45 p.m.
3 p.m., 1 p.m.
3:45 p.m.. 1:45 p.m.
3:51 p.m,, 1:51 p.m.

Middle and high school athletics will continue at the discretion of head coaches. Schools will contact families if practices or games are canceled or rescheduled. All other after-school activities are canceled. All central administration offices will remain open.

Other early dismissals:

  • Bethlehem-Center: Two-hour early dismissal.
  • Bishop Canevin High School: 12:25 p.m. dismissal.
  • East Allegheny: 11:40 a.m. dismissal for students in grades 7-12.
  • Elizabeth Forward: High school students dismissed at noon, middle school students dismissed at 12:45 p.m. and elementary school students dismissed at 1:30 p.m.
  • Greensburg Salem: Secondary school students dismissed at noon, elementary students dismissed at 1:!5 p.m.
  • Kiski Area: Two hour early dismissal Tuesday.
  • Laurel Highlands: Middle school students dismissed at noon, elementary school students dismissed at 1 p.m. and high school students dismissed at 2 p.m.
  • Leechburg: Two-hour early dismissal..
  • McKeesport Area: High school students dismissed at 11:30 a.m.
  • Mt. Pleasant: Elementary school students dismissed at 1 p.m. .
  • Penn Hills: Linton Middle School students only, 1 p.m. .
  • Propel Hazelwood: Two-hour early dismissal.
  • Propel Northside: 1:30 p.m. dismissal.
  • Shaler Area: High school students dismissed at 11:45 a.m., middle school students dismissed at 12:15 p.m., elementary school students dismissed at 12:30 p.m.
