The Pennsylvania Game Commission has scrapped a six-decade tradition and has moved the opening day of deer rifle season from the Monday after Thanksgiving to the Saturday after Thanksgiving. The move is effective in November.

The commission voted 5-3 to make the change Tuesday, according to multiple reports. The move expands deer season, the state's most popular hunting season, to 13 days and now includes three Saturdays.

When the game commission first proposed the change in January, it said the move was an attempt to stay current with changing hunting demographics and would create more opportunities for hunters.
