PA Department Store Chain Boscov's Expanding
At a time when many retail chains are closing multiple locations, PA-based Boscov's is marking a milestone with its next location.

EXETER, PA — Boscov's will experience a milestone moment later this year when the nation's largest family-owned department store chain opens it 50th store.
The store will be the nation's largest family-owned department store chain's first location in West Virginia in Meadowbrook Mall. The 150,000 square-foot space formerly housed a Sear's and 12 other mall stores.
"North Central West Virginia is going to see some very aggressive retailing that combines fun, fashion, community partnership, entertainment and service with jaw-dropping pricing throughout the store,” company CEO Jim Boscov told ChainStoreAge.Com.

Boscov also offered an explanation as to how the chain is able to open new stores when most retailers are closing brick-and-mortar locations as online sales continue to increase: "We have the advantage of being a family-owned business. That means we can make decisions and work to please the customer, not the stock market."
Boscov's, was founded 109 years ago and currently has 49 stores in Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware, Connecticut, Rhode Island and Ohio. More than half of them are located in the Keystone State.
