PA Police Chief Shot, Killed; Alleged Killer Also Dies
Justin McIntire, the police chief of the small Western Pennsylvania town of Brackenridge, died Monday.
BRACKENRIDGE, PA — The police chief of a small Western Pennsylvania town was shot and killed Monday by a suspect who later died in a police shootout in Pittsburgh.
Chief Justin McIntire, 46, died in the shooting near 6th Avenue and Morgan Street. The suspect, Aaron Lamont Swan, 28, died later in an encounter with police in Pittsburgh's Homewood section.
Another officer, who was not immediately identified, was wounded in the initial shooting.

Police were seeking Swan for a probation violation. After the Brackenridge shooting, he allegedly carjacked a vehicle that he drove to Pittsburgh before the police shootout.
Pennsylvania Gov.-elect Josh Shaprio issued the following statement on social media: "Today's tragedy in Brackenridge is a devastating reminder of the bravery of those who put their lives on the line every day to protect us. Police Chief Justin McIntire ran towards danger to keep Pennsylvanians safe — and he made the ultimate sacrifice in service to community."

McIntire's widow, Ashley, posted this message on Facebook: "I am literally broken. I just want someone to tell me this nightmare is over. My best friend, my person, my entire world gone in the blink of an eye. I’m not sure how I can do this so-called life without you. I can’t even put into words how great of a person my husband was."
Funeral arrangements for McIntire are incomplete.
Brackenridge is a borough of about 3,000 about 20 miles north of Pittsburgh.
