PA Senator Bob Casey Diagnosed With Cancer
The senator said on Thursday he plans to undergo surgery soon.

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Pennsylvania Sen. Bob Casey revealed Thursday that he has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. He vowed the diagnosis will not prevent him from performing his duties in the U.S. Capitol. Casey said he learned last month that he has prostate cancer.
"While this news came as a shock, I can report that I have an excellent prognosis, as well as the benefit of exceptional medical care and the unwavering support of my family," Casey said. "In the coming months I will undergo surgery, after which I am expected to make a full recovery. I am confident that my recommended course of treatment will allow me to continue my service in the 118th Congress with minimal disruption, and I look forward to the work ahead.”
Casey, 62, a Democrat from Scranton, has served in the Senate since 2007. He previously served as Pennsylvania auditor general from 1997 to 2006 and as state treasurer from 2005 to 2007.

Casey has not indicated whether he will run for another term in 2024. According to the Washington, D.C. publication The Hill, Republicans have been discussing a potential challenge from hedge fund CEO David McCormick, who last year lose the GOP Senate nomination to Mehmet Oz.
Casey is the son of the late Pennsylvania Gov. Robert Casey.
