PA State State Trooper Facing Aggravated Assault, Burglary Charges

CONNELLSVILLE, PA — A Pennsylvania State Police trooper was arrested early Sunday and is charged with aggravated assault, burglary and other charges following an incident in this Fayette County town.

James Stevenson, a trooper at the Uniontown Barracks, was off-duty when the alleged altercation occurred. He has been suspended without pay.

In addition to the aggravated assault and burglary charges, Stevenson, 29, is charged with criminal trespass, simple assault, harassment and criminal mischief.

According to court documents, Stevenson broke into a home on Oak Street shortly before 1 a.m. and found a man and woman undressed. He allegedly jumped on top of the man and began attacking him.

Stevenson then allegedly told the woman to get dressed and that they were leaving. The woman was able to get to her car and get away. She was not injured.

According to court documents, Stevenson had an altercation with the victim's father outside the home in which the father's glasses were broken.

The man whom Stevenson allegedly attacked was treated at an area hospital for a broken nose and cuts and bruises, court documents stated.

Stevenson is free on bond. He faces a preliminary hearing on June 4.
