  • Pittsburgh Penguins vs. Toronto Maple Leafs, Nov. 3, 7 p.m., PPG Paints Arena

Here’s a chance to witness not only some great hockey action, but an all-too-rare encounter between the arguably the most non-threatening nicknamed teams in professional sports. Penguins aren’t exactly fear-inspiring predatory creatures, but they’re still more intimidating than a maple leaf, which sits on a tree for a few months and then falls harmlessly to the ground.

Penguins-Maple Leafs tickets start at $72.

  • Beers of the Burgh, Nov. 3, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., Hunt Armory, Shadyside

The “winter warmer” affords an opportunity to sip some suds from among 30 southwestern Pennsylvania breweries, including Grist House, Couch, Voodoo, Allegheny City, Insurrection and Full Pint. They will be offering innovative local takes on traditional, spiced, pumpkin and other seasonal ales from some of your favorite new and established brewers. Food vendors will be on hand and there also will be live music.

Beers of the Burgh tickets start at $49.

  • EQT Pittsburgh Ten-Miler, Nov. 4, 8 a.m., Station Square, South Side

Don’t feel like you can run a full 10 miles? No worries. The sixth edition of this annual fall race features a two-person Relay option in addition to the full course. The start line, located near Station Square, sits between the Monongahela River and the Duquesne Incline, a century-old cable car that travels to one of the best views of Downtown. Participants will travel through the West End, North Side, Lawrenceville and Strip District.

EQT Pittsburgh Ten-Miler registration starts at $70.

  • Cathedral Rummage Sale, Nov. 3, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., East Liberty Presbyterian Church, East Liberty.

One of the city’s best-known houses of worship is hosting this rummage sale and bake sale in its social hall. Expect to find a great selection of men’s, women’s, and children’s clothing; housewares; small hardware; linens; jewelry; toys; knickknacks; books; records; CDs; DVDs; Christmas items; and more.

Cathedral Rummage Sale admission is free.
