Pirates Host Screening of ‘The Other Boys of Summer’ For Youth

As part of African American Heritage Weekend at PNC Park The Pittsburgh Pirates and the Milwaukee Brewers donned throwback Negro League uniforms as they took the field to a stadium packed with fans. The Pirates went all out to honor the trailblazers who are an integral part of

Pittsburgh history with special events and programs all weekendlong. The culmination on Monday was a special screening of the documentary “The Other Boys of Summer” at the Carnegie Museum of Art for students of 3 local schools. Students from Manchester Academic Charter School, Pittsburgh Obama, and Propel Homestead were treated to lunch at CMOA followed by a screening of the film and a panel discussion that included the Emmy-Nominated Filmmaker, Lauren Meyer, Charlene Foggie-Barnett of the Teenie Harris Archive and Joel S. Gray, Community Outreach Coordinator for the Pirates. The panel was moderated by KDKA’s legendary retired newsman, Harold Hayes.
