PITTSBURGH, PA — Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Aroldis Chapman received a two-game suspension for "inappropriate actions" during this week's game against the New York Mets, Major League Baseball announced Thursday.

Chapman was also fined an undisclosed amount, according to Michael Hill, Major League Baseball’s senior vice president for on-field operations.

Chapman’s suspension begins Friday when the Pirates are scheduled to host the Boston Red Sox. According to the league, Chapman is allowed to appeal the suspension, which would delay the punishment until the process is complete.

Chapman was ejected during Monday night's game after Harrison Bader doubled in the eighth inning of the Pirates’ 6-3 loss to the Mets, the Associated Press reported.

“He evidently said something that the umpire did not like,” Pirates manager Derek Shelton told the outlet.
