Pirates Rank Near The Bottom In MLB Team Value: Forbes

PITTSBURGH, PA — The Pirates didn't gain any value over the past year, but don't feel bad for owner Bob Nutting. The team is still worth about $1.3 billion.

Forbes has released its annual list of Major League Baseball team valuations and analysis of every team's financials. The average team value increased 12 percent over the past year, with the average team being worth $2.32 billion.

The Pirates are far below the average team value and light years away from the New York Yankees, which had the highest value of $7.1 billion - an 18 percent increase over last year. The Yankees perennially are baseball's most valuable team financially.

The Pirates ranked 24th out 30 teams. Trailing the Bucs in valuation were these teams:

25. Cleveland Indians: $1.3 billion.

26. Tampa Bay Rays: $1.25 billion.

27. Kansas City Royals: $1.2 billion.

28. Cincinnati Reds: $1.19 billion.

29. Oakland Athletics: $1.18 billion.

30. Miami Marlins $1 billion.
