Pirates Deal Outfielder Starling Marte To Arizona

PITTSBURGH, PA - The Pirates have traded outfielder Starling Marte to the Arizona Diamondbacks, according to multiple reports. The trade has not been officially announced by either team.

The Pirates are getting two prospects and $250,000 in international signing money in return. ESPN reported the prospects are shortstop Liover Peguero and pitcher Brennan Malone. They are listed as Arizona's 13th and 14th best prosepcts, respectively, at ProspectsLive.com.

Malone was the 33rd overall pick in the 2019 draft. Peguero is "a toolsy 19-year-old from the Dominican Republic who excelled in short-season ball,"according to ESPN. "Arizona was dealing from a farm system that is one of the deepest and best in baseball."

The trade was the first significant move made by new Bucs general manager Ben Cherington, who was hired in November after team owner Bob Nutting fired Neal Huntington.
