FINDLAY TOWNSHIP, PA — A man was arrested at Pittsburgh International Airport Thursday after allegedly attempting to pass a loaded gun through the main security checkpoint. It was the 37th time in 2023 that a weapon was confiscated at the checkpoint, increasing the single-year record for gun seizures that was set on Tuesday.

Allegheny County police said Transportation Security Administration officers observed a 9 mm handgun in a passenger's carry-on bag. Police determined that the passenger, Jamal Pittman of Mississippi, did not have a valid concealed permit and was a person not to possess a firearm under state law.

Pittman was taken into custody and will be charged with one felony count of persons not to possess a firearm and one misdemeanor county of carrying a firearm without a license, police said. The FBI also was notified about the incident.
