Pittsburgh Among Nation's Best Cities To Celebrate Easter: Study

PITTSBURGH, PA - A new study affirms what many southwestern Pennsylvania residents already know: Pittsburgh is one of the premier places in the country in which to celebrate Easter.

Financial data site WalletHub has issued its 2019 report on the best places to celebrate Easter. Pittsburgh ranked sixth, behind only New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Cincinnati and St. Louis.

To determine which cities are the best, WalletHub compared the 100 most populated cities across four basic categories and corresponding subdivisions: Easter observers, Easter traditions, kids’ Easter and Easter weather. Here’s how Pittsburgh ranked in several areas:

  • Percentage of Christian population: 4th.
  • Candy and chocolate shops per capita: 6th
  • Churches per capita: 7th.
  • Flower and gift shops per capita: 14th.
  • Brunch restaurants per capita: 22nd.

Along with its rankings, WalletHub estimated that total Easter-related spending nationwide will top $18.1 billion this year, with $2.5 billion being spent on candy.

WalletHub also found 59 percent of people eat chocolate bunnies ears first.
