Pittsburgh Among Nation's Best Places To Retire: U.S. News
U.S. News & World Report has released its 2024 ranking of the best metro areas in which to retire. Find out here how Pittsburgh fared.
PITTSBURGH, PA — Pittsburgh is among seven Pennsylvania metro areas listed among the 10 Best Places to Retire in the U.S., according to rankings released recently by U.S. News & World Report.
This year’s list is based on the evaluation of the nation’s 150 most populated metropolitan areas based on how well they meet Americans’ expectations for retirement. Measures used in the evaluation were affordability, health care, desirability, retiree taxes, the job market and overall happiness.
Pennsylvania dominated the top five in this year’s list and had seven metro areas in the top 10 — compared to five in last year's list. Cities in the top tier are:

"Known by nicknames like Blitzburgh and Steel City, Pittsburgh is on the verge of greater heights. Emerging from a dying steel industry, Pittsburgh is earning another name: reinvention city. Since the steel mills closed in the 1980s, Pittsburgh feels cleaner and full of energy. Pittsburgh encompasses almost 2,000 acres of land in just its city parks and offers county parks, state parks and riverfront parks to its residents.
"The area is also attracting major corporations looking to set up shop. Transplants are surprised to find a hub of technology and education in the region. A rise in job opportunities has made Pittsburgh and attractive place for families and graduates."
